What Is This All About?
This website is the result of a thesis project for the Master's of Holistic Health Studies at the College of St. Catherine. Both researchers are studying herbology as their primary focus in the program.
Essential oils have been shown to have potential for combating microbes involved in human disease, including some strains of bacteria that are resistant to current antibiotic treatment. With the ability of microbes to adapt to environmental changes, scientists have difficulty staying ahead of them. The results are stronger, drug-resistant microbes for which we have limited treatment options. Essential oils may be one option for winning the battle against the bugs. They have been used extensively by other cultures for treating wounds. Can essential oils be used effectively to treat chronic wounds? Can they be used to fight microbial infection in wounds?
The purpose of this website is to explore the effectiveness of essential oils in wound care through the gathering of stories from people who have used essential oils on wounds. Current research from other regions of the world has initiated this exploration; however, limited studies have been done using essential oils for wound care in the United States.
How Can I Assist?
We are seeking your input, your stories about use of essential oils in wound care with your patients or yourselves and your family. To do so, we ask that you create a user account on our site* and then simply use the "Submit A Story" link to send us your experience(s).
* We'll protect your privacy to the best of our ability, but you can use an alias if you so wish. You will require a valid email address to register, however, but we will not sell it off to any other entity (we hate that). You may receive an email update from us once in a while as the project progresses.
